There are definitive Riesling aromas of peach, clove and orange peel that jump out immediately. The mouthfeel is supple and complex with a mid-palate that is inundated by elegant fresh fruit like pineapple, apricot, grapefruit and confectionery. There is a refreshing acidity profile that perfectly complements the light residual sugar and lends its hand to a lingering finish.
2015 was the earliest harvest in King Estate history. A dry, mild winter led to early bud break in mid to late March, about two weeks ahead of normal. With minimal frost damage to worry about during winter, there was an abundance of fruit set by early June. Warm temperatures throughout spring and summer kept the vines ahead of their seasonal average maturation while a slight reprieve from the heat arrived around harvest and helped to preserve acidity and allowed for optimal flavor development. Fruit came in perfectly ripe having benefited from extended hang time.
Handpicked and whole cluster pressed, the wine 2015 Riesling was allowed to cold settle before being racked, slowly fermented and cold stabilized. 4 months sur lie aging took place prior to bottling.
