This is deep, dark and diverse from every aspect. Starting out with a vibrant dark violet color, the nose explodes with blackberry, black currant, toffee and nutmeg. Rich flavors of tobacco leaf and blackberries dominate the palate with elegant edges of plum, violets and cedar. There are layers of structure, supported by racy acidity, rich fruit and silky tannins. Enjoy now until 2025, or longer.
Vineyards – 38% Seven Hills; 27% Los Oidos; 11% Les Collines; 9% Zillah Ranch; 6% Indian Wells; 5% Echo West; 1% Sugarloaf; 1% Weinbau; 2% Other Following on the heels of a cold winter in 2014, early spring was very wet with double our typical precipitation in March. Rapidly warming temperatures in April led to bud break a week early. These favorable conditions continued, leading to very strong fruit set after the mid-June bloom. The abundance of fruit allowed for meticulous hand thinning; only fruit meeting stringent quality parameters was allowed to ripen. Moving into late summer/early fall the grape clusters were in outstanding condition which combined with unusually dry conditions allowed for extended hang time and enhanced flavor development. The extended harvest period enabled each vineyard to be harvested at peak ripeness resulting in a crop of fantastic quality.
